It is grown mainly in the Himalayan foothill plains of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and is naturally aged to improve aroma and texture. The grains stay long, separate and fluffy after cooking - perfect for biryani, pulao, jeera rice and kheer. India is the largest producer and exporter of Basmati rice.
